Every great enterprise begins with and takes its first forward step in faith". In 1913, the Church of England Zenana Mission began a 'finishing school' for Indian girls. The founders wished that the pupils be imbued with Christian ideals and the poise and etiquette of an 'English' education. The old Mission house, an image of classical English grace was used as the main school building. Ewart School acquired its name from Miss. Ewart - the school's first benefactor. To begin with there were just three pupils on the roll.

The school followed the senior cambridge system of instruction, the content of the school curriculum being that of the schools in England that took this examination. The founders of Ewart School lit the torch of Christian education in the city, in the second decade of the century with that depth and clearness of vision that saw with eyes of faith, its purpose fulfilled down the vista of time. They poured in the oil of selfless devotion and shakeable faith in the eternal God and this made it shine brightly. It has been fed likewise by those who followed later and it is no wonder that the school's name shines forth today.
